Steam Trap Valve

There are three types of steam traps,

Inverted Bucket - As condensate flows into the trap body. Air and steam are trapped in the inverted bucket. This gives a bucket buoyancy and rises with the condensate and quickly closes the valve. When entrapped steam condenses, bucket loses buoyancy, sinks and opens the discharged valve. Air, which has accumulated on top of the trap is immediately expelled by the pressure of the water which follows it to the trap outlet. When air or steam, again enter the inverted bucket the cycle is repeated.
Thermodynamic - Cold condensate or air raise the disc under pressure and flow freely through the trap. When flash steam reaches the trap, the velocity under the disc is instantly increased and pulls the disc onto the seat. Flash pressure on top of the disc snaps it onto its seat to give a tight shut-off. Heat loss from the above disc causes the chamber pressure to decrease and the valve disc opens again to discharge condensate.
Ball Float - On startup, main valve is normally closed. When condensate reaches a certain level in the trap, the float begins to rise. This opens the main valve and condensate is drained until the float is lowered.
